MISSIONS:
That simple word, ‘missions’, stirs up more different visions than almost any
other word in the English language. It might mean a company’s financial
mission, a civic group’s reason for being, or a religious organization’s
outreach to spread the Gospel. I am sure there are other types of ‘missions’.
Our emphasis is on two types of missions. The first, and most obvious, is the religious mission. The second is the benevolent mission. The latter mission might be a foreign concept to many because it has such a religious overtone. Any of these might be a short term mission ( Shorttermmission ) or of a longer duration.
The focus of Spartanburg Angels is to the indigenous children of the island of Roatan (Row a ta n), Honduras. Roatan is the largest island in the bay island group of islands off of the North coast of Honduras.

Therefore
our mission statement
The mission of Spartanburg Angels is to reach the
peoples of Roatan, Honduras CA, for the LORD, through prayer; and support of
programs designed to meet their spiritual, health and educational needs.
Providing this support through existing mission programs in Roatan, Honduras and
direct contact with
the peoples of Roatan, Honduras.
And followed by our Motto:
Sometimes extending a life, clothing or educating
a child is the first step in saving a soul!
Why our name, “Spartanburg Angels”? Quite simply, it is the city in which the founder of ‘Spartanburg Angels’ lives; Spartanburg, South Carolina USA. That name was chosen either as a quick thought as to where the majority of support was anticipated to originate from or as an over site as to the scope or reach that Spartanburg Angels might grow. You do not have to be a citizen of Spartanburg to be involved with Spartanburg Angels or to participate in a mission hosted by or assisted by us.
Not everyone can go on a ‘mission’ to a foreign country and there are many other types of missions. A mission might be in your own neighborhood; even next door or across the street. It might be somewhere else in your city or state and even across the United States. But if you are considering a mission to a foreign country like Roatan, Honduras the first thing to do is “pray”! Find out, first, if GOD is leading you in this path. It is quite easy to go to Roatan, and in fact many people do, as it is a beautiful place to vacation; but it is not easy to make a significant contribution to a religious mission if GOD has not called you to that purpose. Roatan, Honduras is a third-world country. And for those of you who might not have a concept of just what that means you might want to read the article: Poverty in Roatan, Honduras.
On our ‘hosted’ mission trips you will not sleep in a tent or on a dirt floor, eating ‘who knows what’ cooked on an open fire. The accommodations are clean and comfortable, just not your local (Fill in the name of your favorite motel or hotel). The food is healthful and cooked and served in family style. But other considerations must be taken into account. It is very warm there, even in the winter season. Even hot by some standards and the summer heat and humidity can be unbearable for some. Medical care is such that it does not tend towards specialized needs. And the very people you will be serving are loving and appreciative but will touch your heart in a way that will leave you a changed person. We can guarantee that you will not come back, quite the same person you were when you left. For a better idea of what to expect you might want to view the Microsoft PowerPoint show which details the VBS mission trip during the summer of 2006, and can be seen by clicking here.
OUR NEXT MISSION TRIP IS SCHEDULED FOR
DECEMBER
13-20, 2008 Pre-Christmas mission
APRIL 4-11, 2009 Pre-Easter mission
JUNE 13-20 or 20-27, 2009 Youth/young adult mission
(Tentative)
We would love to have you join us!
WHAT TYPE OF MISSION ARE YOU
INTERESTED IN?
There are many different types of missions which might be of interest to a
wide
variety people and personal interests. Look over the list and then let
us know
what your interest might be. Indicating your interest does not
obligate you to
anything but allows us the opportunity to provide the
information and answers to
questions you might require.
Basic types of missions include:
Ø VBS mission
Ø Church support and or plant mission
Ø Medical mission
o Dental
o Vision
o Vaccination and general health checks
Ø Construction mission
Ø Youth mission
And all of these can be broken up into two basic categories:
Ø Short term: One or two weeks or longer
Ø Long term: Three months or longer
These might appeal to:
Ø Individuals
Ø Families
Ø Church groups
Ø Civic groups
Ø Doctors/medical technicians/medical assistants/pre-med students
Ø Group of friends
And, of course, any mix or match of the above. Where Spartanburg Angels can be of assistance is by ‘hosting’ the entire mission or assisting in planning and arranging of transportation both to and on the island, lodging, meals, and mission purpose as well as free time activities.
